David Turnbull and Nathan Patterson shortlisted for SFWA Young Player of the Year Award

David Turnbull has been nominated for the Scottish Football Writers' Association's Young Player of the Year Award, alongside Nathan Patterson.

Celtic midfielder Turnbull, 21, was forced to wait for a prolonged run in the Hoops' starting line-up but has been one of the club's key players in the last six months or so, chipping in with nine goals in all competitions.

Rangers ace Patterson, 19, has found his breakthrough into Steven Gerrard's starting XI a little more staggered as he competes for a starting berth with club captain James Tavernier but his impressive displays have not gone unnoticed.

The Glasgow pair join Hibs left-back Josh Doig and Aberdeen midfielder Lewis Ferguson in the running for the award, with the nominations announced earlier this morning and the winner revealed before the end of the season.

Turnbull could claim the gong for the second time in his career after winning during his time at Motherwell, whilst Patterson could crown a season to remember after collecting his first league winners medal at Ibrox.
