David Tennant's adopted son recalls first time he met his 'TV hero' dad aged 5

David Tennant's adopted son Ty has discussed the first time he met the Doctor Who star.

The 17-year-old was introduced to the actor on set of the BBC series because his mum - who ended up marrying David - was working on the show back in 2008.

His mum Georgia and David starred alongside each other in the episode The Doctor's Daughter, in which she played his genetically-engineered offspring.

Ty, who has a close bond with David and calls him dad, spoke about meeting his 'TV hero', who ended up adopting him, during an appearance on Lorraine on Wednesday.

"It was great, I was five when I first met my dad, my mum was working on Doctor Who at the time," Ty recalled.

The young actor added: "I watched him on TV as the hero, and it was crazy how much your life can change."

The teenager is already building up a string of his own acting credits as he has already landed acting roles in Casualty and Tolkien.

Ty is set to star in sci-fi thriller War Of The Worlds alongside Downton Abbey's Elizabeth McGovern.

And he's just the latest to enter into the family business after attending acting classes led by his grandfather - who was the fifth Doctor Peter Davison, 68 - and grandmother Sandra Dickinson, who starred in the 1980s TV adaptation of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

David and Georgia - who married in 2011 - are also parents to Olive, eight, Wilfred, six, and Doris, four, and a fifth baby, who they welcomed in October last year.

The couple have not revealed the name or gender of their latest bundle of joy, but have shared that the little one is already a Doctor Who fan.
