David Tennant is hot property, but Richard Bacon fails to sizzle

Kirsty Young and David Tennant at Centrepoint charity quiz
Kirsty Young and David Tennant at the Centrepoint charity quiz

Look! The Doctor's got a new assistant! Of course, he hasn't. David Tennant isn't in Doctor Who any more, and Kirsty Young is too busy showing people around a desert island to go time-travelling (my luxury – a sonic screwdriver, please). The Desert Island Discs host was asking the questions last week at a quiz to raise money for the Centrepoint charity for homeless people. Tennant was among the celebrity contestants, who also included Steve Coogan, Rob Brydon, James Purefoy, Lisa Maxwell, Shane Richie, Richard Bacon and comedy producer Kenton Allen and his wife, Imogen Edwards-Jones. Anyway, the questions were set by CPL – the independent production company formely known as Celador – and highlights included Brydon singing Delilah in a Tom Jones stylee, and Coogan previewing a new comic character called Alan Partridge. We think he'll go far. Spare a thought for Bacon, though. Teams had to bid to get a celebrity on their team, and the Radio 5 Live man raised less than everyone else. Still, £250 is not to be sniffed at (Tennant raised £2,100).
