Netflix is about to offer one of its most ambitious series yet.
New crime drama Criminal has procedural crime series that comprises 12 unique stories set in 4 different countries: France, Spain, Germany and the UK.
This isn't your usual out on-the-beat cop drama either as t takes place exclusively within the confines of a police interview suite.
Netflix describes it as a "stripped down, cat-and-mouse drama" with a focus on the intense mental games between detectives and suspects.
The first look images released by Netflix certainly tease the tense psychological warfare at play.
All episodes of Criminal are in local language, written and directed by talent from their respective countries, but were all filmed in Madrid.
The UK cast is led by the likes of former Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly , Lee Ingleby , and Nicholas Pinnock.
Former Doctor Who star David Tennant also guest stars in these episodes, along with Avengers Endgame actress Hayley Atwell.
The French cast stars Margot Bancilhon, Laurent Lucas, Stéphane Jober, but also has major guest appearances from film stars like Nathalie Baye and Jeremie Renier.
Meanwhile, Eva Meckbach, Sylvester Groth, and Florence Kasumba are the stars of the episodes in Germany and are joined by guest appearances from Peter Kurth and Christian Berkel.
Finally the Spanish cast is led by Julieta star Emma Suarez, Alvaro Cervantes, Jorge Nosch and guest stars Carmen Machi, Inma Cuesta, and Eduard Fernández.
The intriguing premise promises to provide the most international experience yet for crime dramas on the streaming giant.
Criminal is released on Netflix on September 20, 2019.
