David Tennant addresses Doctor Who return rumours

David Tennant has addressed rumours on whether or not he will return to takeover for Jodie Whittaker once she leaves.

With the current Doctor's farewell episode just around the corner, rumours are spiralling over who will fill the shoes of the 14th reincarnation. As the show wraps up with a centenary special in Autumn, it will also give fans the first look at who will be taking over.

Rumours online are suggesting a big twist is in store as the possibility of a previous Doctor returning is high. David Tennant is at the forefront of the whispers and as a result, has fans buzzing with excitement.

Catching wind of the rumours, David decided to give a somewhat mysterious response as he neither confirmed or denied his part in an upcoming series. During a recent panel at the Spring Edition of German Comic Con he told fans to keep their expectations realistic.

He said: "I've been asked a version of this question for the last 20 years and I've learned through bitter experience that there's not any point in even answering it because whatever I say is spun by whoever wants to hear it. So there's no point in me denying it, there's no point in me confirming it, there's no point in me fudging it. Whatever I say will become whatever the internet wants it to be."

David became the 10th Doctor of the series back in 2005 and worked on the show for five years. He added: "I mean, it would be quite a weird idea. And it's not something you'd necessarily expect from Doctor Who . So, I'm not going to try and give you more than that because what's the point?"

Ninth Doctor Christopher Eccleston also claimed that his version of the timelord was a 'lone traveller' and if the show wanted him back, he'd be doing it solo. This was in reference to speculation of multiple Doctors appearing together for the final special.
