Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has hit back at criticism of current Gunners goalkeeper Bernd Leno following his mistake against Chelsea.
The German stopper has been an ever-present at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League since making his debut last season, he has played a total of 57 games for the Gunners, keeping 13 clean sheets.
The latest of them clean sheets came in a 2-0 New Year's Day victory over Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium, giving Arsenal their first win under new head coach Mikel Arteta.
It was Leno's fourth shut-out of the season, having kept clean sheets against Newcastle, Bournemouth and Everton previously.
However, despite impressing between the sticks during 2019/20, the goalkeeper came under criticism for his role in Chelsea's equalising goal in the 2-1 loss just three days before the Man Utd game.
Leno misjudged a cross into the box, allowing Jorginho to tap in at the back post. Chelsea went onto score a winning goal just four minutes later through Tammy Abraham.
While watching the victory over Man United, Arsenal legend David Seaman took to social media to defend the goalkeeper.
"Drives me mad when all I hear about is @Bernd_Leno mistakes," he wrote on his Twitter account .
"He’s had so much to do this season and with the amount of saves he’s been making he’s possibly the best player in the @Arsenal l team at the moment."
Arteta could decide to rest Leno for Arsenal's FA Cup third round tie against Leeds United on Monday evening.
