May 01--The White Sox reinstated closer David Robertson from the bereavement list before Sunday's game against the Orioles at Camden Yards.
Robertson missed three games while attending funeral services for his father-in-law, Rick Cronin, who died last week at age 60 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Robertson learned of his passing earlier in the week, but he pitched Wednesday in Toronto before leaving to be with his family.
"I was fine in Toronto -- the emotions hit me when we got there," Robertson said. "He not only was my wife's dad, he was one of my good friends. We hung out nonstop. He lived with us all offseason. He's a good man. He was taken too early."
Robertson will be available in Sunday's game, Sox manager Robin Ventura said. Robertson said he tried to keep up with the Sox and watched Saturday's 8-7, come-from-behind victory on TV. Right-hander Nate Jones pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the victory.
"(That) is the weirdest thing I think I've ever done, watching a full game, seeing everyone come in," Robertson said. "I was yelling at the TV. It's harder watching a game on TV than it is being here in person to watch it. I was glad. It was a great win for the guys."
The Sox optioned right-hander Tommy Kahnle to Triple-A Charlotte after he made one scoreless appearance Friday.
