David Proctor joins East Kilbride for a third time

Lowland League champions East Kilbride have secured the signing of defender David Proctor for a third time.

The centre-back has been brought back to the club by caretaker boss Jim Paterson to boost the squad for the remainder of the season.

Proctor trained with the team last night, but is lacking match action and may not be fit enough to make Saturday's squad for the league trip to leaders Kelty Hearts on Saturday.

It marks a second return to K-Park for the 35-year-old. He spent two years at the club between 2016-2018, lifting the Lowland League title under Martin Lauchlan and being a player-coach for Billy Stark the following season.

He left for a coaching role at Airdrieonians at the end of the 2018 season, but soon came back to the club to serve as a player-coach under Stuart Malcolm, facing his former side Inverness in the Scottish Cup in January this year.

Proctor won a second league title last season, only to leave Kilby after they lost to Cove Rangers in the SPFL play-offs in May.

However, the lure of his hometown club has proved too strong once again as he comes in to help the club pick up the pieces of a nightmare league campaign, which has seen them slip to ninth in the table and 16 points behind leaders Kelty.

Proctor's return is in a playing capacity only and his experience will be welcome at K-Park ahead of a Scottish Cup fourth round tie at home to BSC Glasgow on January 18, where a potentially lucrative last 16 tie awaits the winners.
