David Prescott: John Prescott's son and key Corbyn aide suspended by party

A key member of Jeremy Corbyn’s team has been suspended by the party after receiving allegations against him.

David Prescott, son of former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott, who is Communications Manager for Jeremy Corbyn, was suspended several days ago.

The Labour Party will not publicly confirm the suspensions, saying only that: ““We don’t comment on staffing matters.”

The nature of the allegations have not yet been made known, but a party spokesman did confirm: “The party takes all complaints of sexual harassment, abuse and discrimination extremely seriously.

Mr Prescott has twice attempted to be elected as a Labour MP.

He stood as Labour's candidate in Gainsborough in the 2015 election, but lost to Conservative incumbent Sir Edward Leigh.

Earlier this year, he failed to gain the nomination as the party's candidate in Hull West and Hessle after former home secretary Alan Johnson announced he was standing down in June's election.

He is widely regarded as having been crucial to Mr Corbyn’s much improved public image and performance at Prime Minister’s Questions.

Mr Prescott has not responded to The Independent’s requests for comment.
