David Parkhouse out to earn new Sheffield United contract after Derry City loan extension

David Parkhouse wants to prove to Premier League newcomers Sheffield United over the coming months that he is deserving of a new contract.

Parkhouse, 19, is pleased that an initial six-month loan spell with Derry City has been extended by to the end of the SSE Airtricity League season.

"I didn't want to come on a six month loan and to be interrupted again," he admitted.

"This way I don't lose the momentum that I've gained. It's done and dusted now, I just want to kick on and succeed as much as possible."

The Derry-born striker is under contract with the Blades until next summer.

He said: "I'm at the stage of my career where I'm just trying to showcase what I have and to show everybody that I can compete with the top players, that I have what it takes to go further in my career.

"If I keep going well hopefully Sheffield United will revisit the contract situation.

"Promotion for the club was amazing, it shows me and all the young playes that it's down to how much you want it now.

"Because it's all well and good getting promotion to the Premier League, it's where everyone wants to be, but there will be more competition to get a spot in the team.

"I'm doing my best to prove to them over there that I have what it takes, but that's credit to Derry for what they've done for me and allowed me to do.

"I'll just keep pushing on, that's all I can do".
