David Ospina reveals transfer plans as Napoli loan clause remains unfulfilled

Arsenal stopper David Ospina has confirmed he hopes to remain a Napoli player come the end of the season.

A deal has always seemed likely with transfer clause placed into his love deal and Carlo Ancelotti suggesting that the 30-year-old will still be at the club next season in a matter of fact manner earlier this term.

He said: "Ospina will remain at Napoli next season, regardless of how many games he plays."

The situation has become muddied recently with the Italian coach starting three different goalkeepers in recent weeks in Ospina, Alex Meret and Orestis Karnezis.

Arsenal told what they must do to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Christopher Nkunku this summer

However, as football.london reported in February the Serie A side were stalling over giving the Arsenal loanee game time that would force their hand over a transfer agreement between the two clubs. I Partenopei have agreed a clause that will allow the club to purchase the former Nice glovesman for £4million (around €4.5million) at any stage of his loan stay.

However this optional clause becomes an obligation if the goalkeeper plays 25 games in a season. Ospina has played 23 matches thus far with five matches remaining before the end of the season.

The loan star has started consecutive Serie A matches and the competition in goal does not appear to have daunted Ospina, and he seems hopeful of a transfer that will allow him to remain in Naples.

Unai Emery responds to Arsenal clear-out transfer talk with future of top Gunners stars in doubt

He told Napoli Gol - via Sport Witness - following Napoli's defeat against Atalanta: “Not always playing is a particular situation, one would always like to play. We are always ready, however, when the coach asks us to be. There are two other goalkeepers who can play.

“My Future? My hope is to stay at Napoli. Then we will decide with the club at the end of the season.”
