David Onyemata, Taysom Hill lead Saints in 2018 performance bonuses

A number of New Orleans Saints players qualified for performance bonuses during the 2018 season, bringing in extra payments for on-field play. These payments are calculated using a player index, which factors in playing time against salary adjusted for other bonuses and incentives. Per Nick Underhill of the Advocate, these were the top ten earners in performance bonuses for the Saints:

  • DT David Onyemata $212,464
  • QB Taysom Hill $206,518
  • WR Tre’Quan Smith $186,703
  • CB P.J. Williams $176,786
  • RB Alvin Kamara $175,058
  • FS Marcus Williams $172,850
  • SS Vonn Bell $171,925
  • LB Alex Anzalone $159,875
  • CB Ken Crawley $151,033
  • NT Taylor Stallworth $149,324

The full list of Saints players who qualified for performance bonuses was shared by Larry Holder of the Athletic. As you can see, this bonus system tends to benefit players on low-cost rookie contracts. It’s a way to reward them for fighting their way up the depth chart and helping their teams.
