David O'Leary provides update on Leeds United vs Bayern Munich legends match as he delivers coronavirus message

Former Leeds United boss David O'Leary has taken to Twitter to give an update on the postponed legends friendly against Bayern Munich as he urged supporters to follow official advice and stay at home during the coronavirus pandemic.

O'Leary was due to join Howard Wilkinson in the dugout this weekend to oversee a clash between his old side and their 1975 European Cup final opponents.

A host of former Leeds favourites including Oliver Dacourt, Lee Bowyer and Luciano Becchio had signed up to feature, with the likes of Lucio, Carsten Jancker, Martin Demichelis and Ze Roberto due to represent the German side in a friendly to mark Leeds' centenary celebrations.

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has understandably put a stop to the match and on the day that the Elland Road clash was set to take place, O'Leary recorded a short video message via his daughter's Twitter account.

"Today was supposed to be the legends game where we were supposed to have a great day out," he said from his home, before giving an update on a potential new date for the friendly.

"I'm hearing now that it's going to be in September maybe, so that's something for us all to look forward to. If it is in September it'll be even bigger or better and we'll have an absolutely great day.

"Safe safe, stay home, save lives. See you soon."

O'Leary, who led Leeds to the Champions League semi-finals during his time in charge of the club, returned to Elland Road for the centenary celebrations back in October,
