CHICAGO _ David Nwaba, who had a strong 2017-18 season for the Bulls, has agreed to a free-agent deal with the Cavaliers, a source confirmed.
Yahoo Sports first reported the agreement, which is expected to be finalized this week.
Nwaba, 25, averaged 7.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 23.5 minutes over 70 games for the Bulls last season, including 21 starts. Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg cited Nwaba's intensity, defensive toughness and strong analytic measurables often last season, which proved to be a breakout season for the 6-foot-4 guard.
The Bulls claimed Nwaba off waivers last summer from the Lakers but rescinded their qualifying offer to him on July 12, moving his free agency from restricted to unrestricted.
When the Bulls moved on to sign Jabari Parker in free agency, the Chicago Tribune reported that Nwaba no longer figured in the team's plans.
Nwaba provided plenty of highlights last season and drew widespread respect throughout the organization for his humble demeanor and heady play.
