David Moyes using Cheltenham Festival as inspiration for West Ham's Champions League push

David Moyes insists West Ham could yet pull off a Cheltenham-style shock in the race for the top four.

Everton and Chelsea are now the mane challengers to the Irons who will move back into a Champions League position with victory over Leeds on Monday night.

But Moyes referred to the horse racing festival - renowned for big-priced shocks - to reaffirm his belief that his men can stay the distance in the chase for the top four.

He said: We are the big outsiders for the Champions League but if you watch the Cheltenham races sometimes the outsider comes through and I am hoping that is us.

“I would not put anything pass this group of players, the position at the moment is an incredible position and we will do everything we can to maintain it.”

“We are going to try I can’t promise it but we are going to try.

“Trying to break into the top four is a monumental effort for the teams without the finances of the regulars but getting into it provides you with that finance. There is always a first for everything and we are hoping it will be a first for us.”
