David Moyes up for Premier League award on the back of West Ham's remarkable campaign

West Ham boss David Moyes has been shortlisted for the Premier League Manager of the Season award after leading the Hammers to a top-six finish.

The nomination comes as a fitting reward for the stellar campaign the Scot has led West Ham on culminating in a Europa League campaign to look forward to.

When Moyes took on the Hammers job for the second time in his career, West Ham were mired in a relegation battle with not even the most optimistic Hammer believing a European campaign would be on the cards just 18 months later.

After leading the club away from the relegation zone in the 2019-20 season, Moyes has taken the team on another level and put his stamp on the squad.

Fine transfer recruitment, including the additions of Tomas Soucek, Vladimir Coufal, Said Benrahma, Craig Dawson, Jarrod Bowen, and the loan signing of Jesse Lingard, transformed the team's fortunes.

West Ham began the 2021-21 season with back-to-back losses to Newcastle and Arsenal but bounced back to go on a fine run of just two defeats in their next 11 league games.

For the majority of the second half of the season, the Hammers were surprise Champions League contenders only for their form to slightly dip towards the end of the campaign, in part due to injuries to a number of key players including Declan Rice and Michail Antonio.

Missing out on Champions League football was a disappointment to Moyes but should take nothing away from the fine season he has overseen.

The Scot is up against Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa, Leicester City's Brendan Rodgers, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer of Manchester United, and Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola for the award.

The award is one voted for by fans and Hammers supporters can get behind their man on the Premier League website.

Moyes is not the only Hammer to be up for a major award this season, with Tomas Soucek nominated for the EA Sports Premier League Player of the Season gong.
