David Moyes 'to be appointed new West Ham boss' after Manuel Pellegrini sacked

David Moyes is reportedly set to be appointed West Ham's new manager after Manuel Pellegrini was sacked on Saturday.

Pellegrini was after West Ham lost 2-1 to Leicester City in what was their fourth straight home defeat.

Former Hammers boss Moyes is the early front runner to replace Pellegrini in the hotseat at London Stadium.

And Moyes is set to meet the club's powerbrokers on Sunday ahead of being appointed as manager, according to Sky Sports News .

However, Inside Futbol claims the club wants to meet other contenders as well, with Chris Hughton, Tony Pulis and Sam Allardyce all having been touted as potential candidates.

Moyes was linked with a return to another of his former clubs recently after Everton sacked manager Marco Silva, but Carlo Ancelotti eventually landed the job.

On Match of the Day on Saturday night, Jermaine Jenas said Moyes might not be a popular choice with fans, while fellow pundit Danny Murphy insisted Sam Allardyce would ensure the Hammers stay in the Premier League.

Jenas said: ”If they are looking at going back to previous managers then David Moyes did a good job but whether that is going to keep the West Ham fans happy, I’m not sure.”

Murphy added: “I think if you are going to go backwards and go with someone who has been there before it needs to be Big Sam for me.”

West Ham also suffered nine defeats in their last 12 games, leaving them 17th in the Premier League table and hovering just a point off the relegation zone.

It was enough to prompt club bosses to part with former Premier League title winner Pellegrini after 18 months at the helm.

A club statement read: "West Ham United can confirm that Manuel Pellegrini has left the club with immediate effect.

"Joint chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold, along with the board and everyone at West Ham United, would like to place on record their thanks to Manuel for his service over the past 18 months."
