David Moyes' sliding doors West Ham transfer that also worked out well for Burnley

Tomáš Souček is West Ham's top scorer this season with five Premier League goals to his name.

Lining up opposite him today will be Josh Brownhill. The Burnley man could so easily have been a West Ham player himself, instead, he opted for a move to Turf moor.

The interest from West Ham was widely reported at the time, but Brownhill decided Burnley was the club for him. Speaking to the Athletic, Brownhill said:

"You know when something just feels right," adding, "Burnley gave me that feeling."

It took Brownhill until the resumption of the Premier League to nail down his starting spot in the team but he has not looked back since, featuring in all bar one of Burnley's league matches.

Souček made more of an immediate impact for West Ham slotting straight into the first team and has played every minute of Premier League action this season.

And it is fair to say David Moyes is thrilled with Souček's performances:

"Tomáš Souček has come in and done a great job," said Moyes, "I don’t think there is a secret to his success in front of goal.

"He had a good goalscoring record before we brought him in. We knew he had scored goals in the Czech Republic and that was part of the reason for bringing him in.

"We didn’t know if he’d get as many goals here, but he’s come into the team and looks as if he’s capable of scoring and more importantly, he’s been a great member of the squad and a real team player for us." added the Hammers manager.

Moyes did admit to having looked at bringing Brownhill in last January:

"I did have an interest in Josh Brownhill, but we were linked with a thousand players like we are at the moment as well," said the boss.

"Brownhill was mentioned to me and I think he has actually improved with his performances for Burnley, he is a regular in the team now.

"So it shows you that we weren’t a million miles off getting that [right]," he added.

With Souček and Rice forming a formidable partnership in the centre of midfield, it is clear Moyes has no regrets about which player he signed last January.:

"His goals have been important, but his attitude and commitment every week have been first-class."
