David Moyes reveals why he wanted to sign Tomas Soucek as midfielder closes in on West Ham move

David Moyes believes Tomas Soucek "fits the profile of player" he wants to bring to the club as the midfielder is close to sealing a move to West Ham.

The Slavia Prague captain should become Moyes' second recruit of the winter window, following Darren Randolph through the doors in east London to help aid the Hammers' battle against the drop.

The 24-year-old central midfielder should bolster an area of the pitch where the Hammers are desperately lacking in both numbers and quality, with more than 20 caps for the Czech national team under his belt.

Soucek underwent a medical in the capital on Tuesday and providing their have been no issues raised, should become the Hammers latest recruit.

David Moyes press conference ahead of West Ham vs Liverpool

Moyes has identified the need for a midfielder as a priority area to strengthen, he would also like a full back and another striker, but has now addressed two key areas of the squad that needed bolstering.

The manager revealed what he thinks Soucek will bring to the Hammers and why he wanted to sign him at his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday's game against Liverpool at London Stadium.

I think he gives us a lot of different aspects but more importantly he fits the profile of the player I want to bring to West Ham," Moyes said.

"I said I want to bring young players but we also need experience too and I think at the moment, he helps with both of those.

"He's captained Slavia Prague, has played defensive midfield, scored a lot of goals as an attacking midfielder too. We needed a bit of all, some cover, another midfield player, obviously goals, so at the moment he ticks a lot of boxes."

The manager also revealed the club has another firm bid in for another target but didn't say who it was, though he did admit it was not Nottingham Forest right back Matty Cash, who has been the subject of one failed bid from the Hammers already this month.
