David Moyes reveals why he took his time to finalise his coaching staff as Kevin Nolan returns

David Moyes has finally got his band together at West Ham after the club announced former skipper Kevin Nolan and former Brighton coach Paul Nevin to the manager's coaching staff.

Moyes has taken nearly six weeks to finalise his backroom team after replacing Manuel Pellegrini as manager, initially working with trusted assistant Alan Irvine, goalkeeper coach Xavi Valero and Hammers under-23s coach Dimitri Halajko.

Now though, Moyes has finished the pieces of his jigsaw by appointing Nolan and Nevin to complete his backroom team, initially on six-month contracts, and both joined in with their first sessions at Rush Green on Thursday morning.

The former Hammers captain scored 31 goals in 157 games for the club between 2011 and 2015 and has been joined in east London by Paul Nevin, a former Brighton and Norwich City coach, initially on contracts until the end of the season.

Nolan has had spells at Leyton Orient and Notts County as player-manager in recent years, but has now linked up with the Hammers again, four-and-a-half years after he left the club by mutual consent.

Nevin played for Shrewsbury Town, Carlisle United and Yeovil Town before beginning his coaching career at Fulham in 1997. After eight years at in west London he was appointed head coach of New Zealand Knights and also coached in Qatar before returning to England with Norwich, then Brighton and also England under Gareth Southgate.

Speaking of the duos appointment to their roles at West Ham, Moyes said: "Both have a wealth of experience in the game and I’m sure they will make a very positive contribution between now and the end of the season.

"Kevin obviously knows the Club very well having played here previously, while Paul’s coaching pedigree is excellent.

"It has taken some time to finalise the coaching staff, but I wanted to make sure I brought in the right people to help us, and both Kevin and Paul are fantastic additions.

"They will get working right away and we are all completely focused on the job we need to do in the coming weeks and months."
