David Moyes reveals West Ham 'disappointment' as he sends message to fans

David Moyes has asked the West Ham fans to give him some "breathing space" next season in order to build on their success of this campaign.

Moyes revealed on talkSPORT he has agreed a new three-year deal at the club and has a long-term vision for where he wants to take West Ham.

The Scot has led the Hammers from the brink of relegation to the Europa League in under 18 months and is aiming to make the club regular contenders for European football.

Having saved the team on two occasions from relegation, Moyes believes he has earned the right to be given time by the owners and fans to push the club on even further.

"If I was a West Ham supporter and David Moyes had come in and saved us from relegation once, came in and saved us from relegation twice and then first full season qualify for Europe, I’d be hoping you’d give him a bit of breathing space," Moyes said.

"Even at Everton, I couldn’t get them in Europe the first year so it has been a huge step. I would hope West Ham supporters are going to say we’re going to give him an opportunity to build on it.

"There is so much room for growth at West Ham."

Moyes is thrilled to have brought European football to the Hammers but admitted that there was a part of him disappointed not to have sealed a Champions League spot.

"There was part of me that was really disappointed we didn’t make the Champions League," he said.

"We were so close and sometimes in this game you have to take your opportunities and I feel like we might have just missed a beat.

"We lost Declan Rice in the last international break. We were without Declan for six or seven games and that was huge for us."

The manager is confident he can keep improving the Hammers but said that bringing in the correct players and keeping the ones he has will be key to this.

"West Ham have so much room for improvement on and off the field," he said. "There’s a great chance, but recruitment is the key.

"I would be quite confident going into the season with the players we have. They are an incredibly good group of players."
