West Ham's hopes of a top-four finish took a dent on Saturday evening but the dream is not over yet according to the players and manager.
The Hammers had the chance to move into the Champions League spots on the weekend but failed to do so after falling to a 1-0 defeat at home to Chelsea.
The loss saw the Blues move three points ahead of West Ham, but with Liverpool only managing a draw against a resurgent Newcastle David Moyes' side remain in fifth place in the table.
Chelsea's run-in sees them face third-placed Leicester City, meaning one of the Hammers' top four rivals will drop points at some point before the end of the season. Thomas Tuchel's side also face a difficult trip to champions-elect Manchester City and a London derby against Arsenal so all is not lost for the Hammers.
The Foxes have a tough run of fixtures to end the season with trips to Manchester United as well as Stamford Bridge and a final day clash with Spurs.
West Ham on the other hand have four of the bottom seven left to play during their five remaining fixtures this season.
If Moyes can rally his troops after back-to-back defeats Champions League football is still there for the taking, something the boss pointed out after the loss to Chelsea.
"Are we still in the mix for top four? Very much so - we want to try and keep going, whether we make the top four or not we want to keep going. We want to be in the mix for European football so that is the idea," Moyes said.
"We've got so close, we're a month away from the end of the season so why would we not try and do it?
"We're right in the mix and hopefully we'll start getting some players back over the next four or five games."
West Ham have been without Declan Rice for the last four matches and Michail Antonio has been missing since his injury against Wolves four games ago. Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku are the other two absentees with both on the sidelines for the last two games.
Moyes has refused to put a timeframe on when his injured players will return but confirmed that Cresswell was "getting closer" and that he was "more than hopeful" Antonio would play again this season.
Rice is another player Moyes will be desperate to see back in action and the 22-year-old has picked up his recovery after returning to individual training last week.
The Hammers have eight days between games with their next match away to Burnley on Monday, May 3. If any of the injured quartet can return in time it will be a huge boost to West Ham's European chances.
