David Moyes outlines his demands to his West Ham players in battle against the drop

David Moyes has said he expects West Ham's talented but vastly underperforming squad to buy into his methods as their battle against relegation begins on New Year's Day.

The Hammers have slipped into the relegation zone prior to kicking off against Bournemouth as Aston Villa's 2-1 victory over Burnley lifted them out of the bottom three and the Londoners have replaced them.

Moyes has been parachuted in for a second time in 18 months to rescue the Hammers from a dire situation. Previously he replaced Slaven Bilic, now he has replaced Manuel Pellegrini who was given the boot after a run of two wins in 12 games.

The new manager has had just two training sessions with the players ahead of meeting Bournemouth but Moyes expects them to adapat quickly to what he wants.

Writing in his first programme notes after his return to the club, Moyes said: "What we need is the players to buy into our methods.

"I am a football supporter and always have been and I know what the supporters want - they want to see action and they want to see commitment from the players.

"So what I will guarantee is that me and the staff with try and get every drop out of the players that we can and hopefully, in turn, it wil get us further up the league.

"Then, I really want to try and build something that looks good for the future."

Alan Irvine will be joining Moyes as his assistant once again but the Scotsman has yet to fully sort out his backroom staff with such  quick turnaround between taking the job once again and having to prepare to face fellow strugglers Bournemouth.
