David Moyes on Newcastle United 'making it difficult' as he bemoans officiating in prickly interview

Newcastle United 'made it difficult' for West Ham - but David Moyes was 'a little bit aggrieved' by some of the officiating in his side's 2-0 defeat.

Newcastle got their season off to the perfect start at the London Stadium thanks to second-half goals from new signings Callum Wilson and Jeff Hendrick.

Moyes was, understandably, not happy after the game and in his post-match interview with Sky Sports reporter Patrick Davison, the West Ham manager answered eight questions in just two-and-a-half minutes.

The Scot's frustrations were quickly apparent as he admitted his side's display was 'miles' off their performances towards the end of last season, when the Hammers lost just one of their final seven games of the campaign.

"I'll try and find that out and do better with it but we hoped that we would," he said.

"We hoped we would start off in the same way, the same form we were in near the end of last season, but we didn't tonight.

"Partly, Newcastle made it difficult for us but I'd liked us to have done much better."

There was an edge to the fixture once referee Stuart Attwell blew his whistle and Andy Carroll went up for his first challenge with Tomas Soucek.

Moyes did not think the game 'was officiated well', which was perhaps a reference to a couple of shouts for handball being ignored, but the West Ham boss stressed that was 'not the reason we lost'.

"Look, we've got many people watching them now," he added.

"I think some of the decisions we felt a little bit aggrieved by, but it's going to be the case.

"We're all going to be saying it after every game so I would try not to talk about them, but that's just the way I felt about the game."
