David Moyes makes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claim ahead of West Ham's matchup with Manchester United

David Moyes says Ole Gunnar Solskajer has been given time at Manchester United to get things right, something the Scot wasn’t afforded during his ill-fated ten months at Old Trafford.

Moyes was appointed as the heir to Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013 but in 2014 he was dispensed with just ten months into a massive six-year contract Moyes penned after leaving Everton to take up one of the biggest jobs in football.

United struggled in the Premier League and missed out on Champions League qualification with Moyes in charge and he was replaced by Ryan Giggs as manager for the final four games of the 2013/14 Premier League season.

After spells with Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho as their manager, United have turned to Solskjaer to get the team back on track after seven years without competing for the Premier League title and seeing neighbours City and Liverpool overtake them.

United were unbeaten in 19 games prior to their defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup on Sunday as Solskjaer has seemed to find the right formula, helped by the purchase of Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon who has been a revelation since joining the club at the turn of the year.

Moyes returns to Old Trafford in the opposition dugout in midweek as manager of West Ham on Wednesday night having effectively secured survival for the Hammers for the second time in three years having been drafted in for the second half of the campaign.

Speaking ahead of the game, Moyes said: “I think the difference between Ole and me is that Ole has been given time but I have to say he is doing a good job, bringing lots of academy players through which is something they [United] have always stood for.

“They have always had great values over the years and one of the biggest ones was to promote their young players and they have got some very exciting ones there now.”

Wednesday night is United’s game in hand over Leicester City in the race for the Champions League, a competition Moyes couldn’t qualify for, and the Reds could go above the Foxes with a victory at Old Trafford ahead of the final day showdown between the two sides.

Moyes’ side are six points clear of the drop zone with two games to go and a superior goal difference to the teams below them.
