David Moyes makes honest Liverpool admission after West Ham defeat

David Moyes admits his West Ham United side had no answer to Liverpool’s pressing as they were well beaten by the Premier League champions.

Two goals from Mohamed Salah and one from Gini Wijnaldum rendered a late Craig Dawson effort mere consolation as the Reds earned a 3-1 Premier League triumph in London on Sunday.

Liverpool dominated possession against a Hammers side who had won their last six games and went into the match just two points adrift of their opponents in fifth place.

But Moyes acknowledged West Ham could have “no complaints” with the outcome.

“I thought we competed as well as we could but I don’t think we played as well as we could,” said the Hammers boss.

“They are a really good team and were just too strong for us.

“Liverpool are not a team we are challenging. We want to challenge in individual games but their consistency over the whole season will be much greater as we’ve seen over the year.

“They played much better than us. We can have no complaints.”

Moyes added: “We came into the game really confidence but Liverpool made it very difficult for us and we didn’t do the things we have been doing really well.

“We didn’t get the ball down and play but we gave it away and, in the moments we did have it, our key players didn’t do it.

“I would put it down to Liverpool’s pressing, they were very, very good and after us at every opportunity.

“There are three or four teams in the Premier League better than the rest, it’s an obvious thing to say and Liverpool are in that category.”
