David Moyes laments lack of quality in attack as West Ham crash out of FA Cup at Southampton

David Moyes hammered his attackers for a serious lack of quality after West Ham were knocked out of the FA Cup by Southampton.

West Ham wasted a number of chances to take the lead before falling behind to a stunning Romain Perraud strike.

The Hammers levelled through Michail Antonio's close-range goal following a corner before conceding a sloppy penalty when Craig Dawson fouled Armando Broja to concede a penalty, which James Ward-Prowse converted.

West Ham lacked ideas and struggled to create chances from open play, despite Moyes sending on Said Benrahma and Nikola Vlasic to add to their attacking threat.

Broja sealed a place in the last eight for Southampton with a superb solo effort in injury time - displaying all the quality West Ham lacked.

“It was disappointing," said Moyes. “I thought we had chances to go ahead and then we went behind to a worldie of a goal, which I didn’t see coming.

“We made a terrible mistake defensively which gave them the chance to go back in front.

“We are lacking quality at the moment in the final third of the field.

“We’re pleased for Mich that he got a goal. But we’ve got other players that need to find some quality and start making the right decisions in the final third.

“Complete passes, make the right choices in and around the box. I don’t know how many times tonight we made the wrong choices in and around the box, it cost us tonight. Our finishing and final pass was so poor, so poor.”
