David Moyes issues Liverpool and Manchester City warning after West Ham’s flying start to Premier League season

West Ham boss David Moyes has suggested Liverpool and Manchester City are the benchmark in the Premier League with his battle cry for his side to ‘keep pushing’ to reach their level.

The former Manchester United and Everton manager has done a fantastic job at West Ham since he returned at the end of 2019.

Liverpool were beaten for the first time this season at the London Stadium earlier on in November but the Reds remain five points ahead of West Ham in the Premier League table.

Despite West Ham’s win over Liverpool, Moyes highlighted in his pre-match press conference today that his side are still some way from reaching the levels of the two sides who have won the last four Premier League titles.

“I don’t think not winning at Man City would necessarily give us a huge dent,” said Moyes.

“We want to get back winning and I understand that if we’re going to continue to be competitive, we have to pick up points – it doesn’t matter where it is.

“Competing means winning games as well – we competed really well against Liverpool and beat them, and competed well against Man City and didn’t get a result against them.

“We’re not quite at that level yet, but we have to keep pushing for it.”

“I’m still trying to build the club. 18 months at the moment isn’t a long period to be at any club, but the players – and us as a staff – have made decent progress.

“The wins and the way we’ve been playing has given us huge belief.”
