David Moyes insists West Ham will be cautious with Michail Antonio to avoid another injury setback

West Ham manager David Moyes is taking a cautious approach with Michail Antonio following the winger’s return from his latest hamstring issue.

Antonio is back in the squad for Wednesday’s game at Leicester but Moyes will tread carefully with the player, who has not featured since December because of a hamstring problem.

He also missed three months earlier this season when he tore his hamstring in a Carabao Cup game in August.

Moyes said: “With Michi, you just don’t know. The minute he gets fit, you bring him back in and he lasts a couple of games and he drops back out again. We need him.

“He’s a fast-twitch player — you play him for his speed and power. You will probably need him to get fully fit for the way you want to play him.

“We’ve not really had that speed to run in behind with the players we have had, we are aware of that and we’ve had to find other ways of trying to play. We need him back fully fit.”

During Moyes’s first spell at West Ham, he dropped Antonio for arriving late for a game, though the Scot says he has moved on since then. “He looks more mature, the way he does his business,” said Moyes.
