David Moyes in Celtic and Rangers Premier League prediction as he makes Brendan Rodgers claim

It's a debate which is older than the hills but still refuses to go away.

If Celtic and Rangers were to be in the Premier League this season where would they finish?

All hypothetical of course. But an interesting argument nonetheless.

David Moyes has now voluntarily stepped into the debate after watching Leicester take five off Newcastle on Sunday.

The former Everton, Manchester United, Sunderland and West Ham boss knows a thing or two about football on both sides of the border having come through the ranks at Celtic as a player and played for Dunfermline, Hamilton and Preston among others.

And he's convinced the Old Firm rivals would be comfortable in the top tier of English football - and even better off when the Premier League TV billions kicked in.

Moyes, speaking on Bein Sports, revealed how he was of the understanding that Brendan Rodgers had been lined up for Leicester job for a while before he finally left Celtic to take over the Foxes in February.

He said: "I'd heard he'd been lined up for that job quite a long time before he got it.

"I think Brendan was always eventually going to come back. He did a great job at Celtic.

"But Celtic, for the people who don't know Celtic, are a really proud club with supporters worldwide.

"Arguably one of the biggest clubs in the world Celtic.

"And I think, if they were in the Premier League - like Glasgow Rangers - they'd be certainly mid-table if not better because of their support base, once they got the funding."

The debate over where the Glasgow rivals would finish in the EPL has been raging for years.

Celtic keeper Fraser Forster last week predicted they'd be comfortable in the Premier League after he made a loan move back to Parkhead from Southampton.

He said: "Looking at what we’ve got in the dressing room and the team we’ve got, there’s no reason why we wouldn’t have a comfortable season in the Premier League."
