West Ham manager David Moyes has previously expressed his opposition to the creation of a European Super League when discussing the future of European football.
Moyes was answering a question from football.london on March 12, 2021, about UEFA's newest club competition the Europa Conference League and made his opposition to any potential European League clear.
"I am hoping it doesn't sound like we are having European leagues and we are taking away from the domestic football because I think it is really important we keep our domestic leagues very strong and don't water them down in any way," Moyes said.
The Hammers manager was very clear on his opposition to any prospective European wide league and with the weekend's news of the formation of the European Super League his fears may have just come true.
The 'big six' in England announced in statements late on Sunday evening via their club websites that they will be a part of the controversial breakaway.
Under the reform, 15-18 of the most high-profile clubs in Europe would take part, including La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.
London sides Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are set to be joined by Liverpool, Manchester United and champions-elect Manchester City in the hugely controversial new league.
The Premier League, the English Football Association and UEFA had earlier announced that any club taking part in the new competition would be barred from playing in any other competition at domestic level.
Meaning the 'big six' would no longer be part of the Premier League potentially causing the biggest ever change to English and European football.
West Ham are currently fourth in the league and the highest-ranked club in London with a fantastic chance of qualifying for European competition next season. What European football will look like next season is currently unclear due to the chaos caused by the formation of the European Super League.
All Moyes and his team can do is win their games, finish as high up the league table as possible and wait to see what UEFA's competitions look like come the start of the 2021-22 season.
