David Moyes gives update on West Ham's transfer chase for Gedson Fernandes

West Ham boss David Moyes has responded to rumours that the club has agreed an 18-month loan deal with Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes by saying he's not heard anything.

Sky Sports News are reporting that a deal has been agreed, though football.london understands that the two clubs and a whole lot of agents and intermediaries are still thrashing out a deal that is not close to completion.

Moyes has wanted a new midfielder ever since he arrived back at the club less than a fortnight ago and Fernandes has been a long-standing link, even before the Scotsman arrived.

The manager was asked for an update on his pursuit of the 21-year-old midfielder at his pre-match press conference ahead of Friday's trip to Sheffield United.

"We're linked with lots of players.

"He's one name which we are talking about. I couldn't tell you about any agreement since I have come into training and to the press conference.

"More importantly, he is a young player with potential, more so for the future. He's got good pedigree. I'd like to bring young players in to build a strong, young team.

"I also have to be very wary of players who are ready for now and can feature for the first team straight away as well."

The Hammers have yet to conclude a deal for Darren Randolph after some issues with his medical and an injury that has kept him out for 12 of the last 14 games.

Moyes added on Randoph: "At the moment, he is carrying a bit of an injury he's had for several weeks and we have to make sure it has healed. That’s where the delay is but I am still very hopeful we can't get it done."
