David Moyes gives Declan Rice transfer hint amid West Ham star's links to Manchester United

David Moyes has admitted he is worried about things becoming "broken" at West Ham this summer amid rumours linking Declan Rice to Manchester United.

Rice has been regularly linked with a move away from the Hammers, having emerged as one of the Premier League’s standout stars over the past 18 months. United are one of the sides interested, with Chelsea and Manchester City also touted as possible destinations.

United are particularly keen, with the 23-year-old being identified as a priority transfer target. Midfield has proven to be a problem position for United this season, with a multitude of names being linked in recent months.

While United remain interested in Rice, securing a deal for him will be another matter. West Ham are understandably not keen on losing their biggest asset, and Moyes has previously suggested it would take at least £100million to take the England international off their hands.

However, speaking to the Evening Standard, the Hammers boss has suggested changes could be afoot in the summer. Although he didn’t name Rice directly, Moyes pointed towards his side facing a fight to become stronger for next season, having once again been in the fight for a Champions League spot this campaign.

“My own worry now is how to keep going for the next few years, how I build on it, how I keep growing it,” Moyes said.

“On and off the pitch, things will be broken which we’ll have to try and fix. Certainly, Mark Noble leaving will be one of them. We’ve got a fight on and I need to find a way of getting us stronger for next year.

“I see new players, I see a stronger squad, I see a change of the guard in some places because of what’s happening at the club. But that will be normal. We do have to make changes in the summer, we do need to look at how to move forward again.

“I don’t want to go stale, and when I see things dropping away, I have to make sure I step up. We can’t do too much about it at the moment, but we have to make sure we keep squeezing the last bit out of them that we can.

“In football management, you have to make some unpopular decisions at times, that’s part of the job. But, look, I’ll always try to make the right decisions for West Ham.”
