David Moyes fires Champions League warning shot to Liverpool and Chelsea

West Ham United manager David Moyes has fired a warning to the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea that he likes the sound of his side being considered as Champions League contenders.

The Hammers, who surrendered a 3-0 advantage to draw 3-3 with Arsenal in their previous home game, survived a Leicester City comeback to win 3-2 after racing into a 3-0 lead, just as they had in their match before at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The result saw West Ham climb above both Liverpool and Chelsea into fourth place, meaning they are occupying the last Champions League qualification spot with seven games to go.

Moyes, who steered Everton to their highest-ever Premier League placing of fourth in 2004/05, finishing above their Champions League-winning neighbours, admits that it feels great just to be part of the conversation again.

Football.london quote the 57-year-old Scot as saying: "Overall I am thrilled to get the results we have, especially this week - they have been big results.

"We are into the period now where you take one game at a time, this is new for us and new for this club for a long time being up there.

"It sounds great that people are even considering us that we could be Champions League contenders and I think that in itself is making the league exciting.

"It is a great time for West Ham supporters as we want to try and do it.

"We want to try and be in European football of some sort and I think if we do that it would be a great achievement."
