David Moyes eyes Adnan Januzaj reunion as West Ham close in on £25million Nayef Aguerd

David Moyes is reportedly keen on a reunion with Adnan Januzaj at West Ham this summer.

The 27-year-old will be a free agent at the end of June when his contract expires at Real Sociedad and the Hammers are said to be one of several suitors, including Napoli and Real Betis, interested in his services. West Ham might have the edge however thanks to Moyes, who handed Januzaj his Manchester United debut back in 2013 after succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson as manager.

Moyes kept faith in the teenager during his only season as Red Devils manager before the Belgian was rarely played when Louis van Gaal took over in 2014. Successive loans to Borussia Dortmund and Sunderland followed before a permanent move to Real Sociedad came in 2017 where he won the Copa del Rey in 2020 but failed to score double figures in a single season despite regular game time.

Now, according to Spanish outlet Diario de Sevilla as per Sport Witness, the Hammers have considered bringing him back to the Premier League where he could reunite with Moyes and bolster the club’s forward options ahead of the new campaign. The West Ham boss has been looking to sign some attacking players to release the burden on Michail Antionio’s shoulders.

Jarrod Bowen did well to support him last season though adding another forward-minded player like Januzaj would no doubt help further. The club are also still interested in bringing another former United player to the club in Jesse Lingard, though that deal doesn’t seem to have progressed much so far.

Before then, the Hammers are close to securing their first signing of the transfer window in left-footed centre-back Nayef Aguerd from Rennes for around £25million. The 26-year-old Morocco international has been a regular for the Ligue 1 side since joining them from Dijon in 2020 and will be expected to become a first-choice defensive partner for Kurt Zouma in time after West Ham wrap up his signature this week.

Aguerd will also provide more competition for Angelo Ogbonna, Craig Dawson and Issa Diop, though the latter could potentially leave the London Stadium this summer. Diop has one year left on his contract and hasn’t persuaded Moyes he can be relied upon to start regular games, making just 13 Premier League appearances for the club last season.

West Ham are also looking at bringing goalkeeper Alphonse Areola back to east London on a permanent basis from Paris Saint-Germain, while Chelsea’s Armando Broja is also under consideration. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is expected to leave Anfield for around £10million this summer too, with the Hammers reportedly considering a move for him also.
