David Moyes explains why Liverpool will beat Man City to Premier League title

Former Manchester United manager David Moyes has backed Liverpool to beat Manchester City in the race for the Premier League.

The two clubs were unmatched in the Premier League last season, but it was City who emerged victorious, securing a win against Brighton on the final day of the season to finish one point ahead of their rivals.

Liverpool have made a perfect start to the new campaign, winning all seven of their Premier League fixtures to gain a five point lead over the reigning champions.

Moyes - who managed United from 2013 to 2014 - is backing Jurgen Klopp to beat Pep Guardiola this time around and secure Liverpool's 19th league title.

Asked whether Liverpool can go all the way, Moyes told beIN SPORTS: "Yes, I think so.

"I thought they were a very good team last year and they are this year as well.

"If they can keep the front three fit - Firmino is so important to the team."

Moyes believes Liverpool's defence is the reason they have the advantage in the title race, with Guardiola being forced to field Fernandinho at the back after injuries to John Stones and Aymeric Laporte.

The Scot added: "They look to me as if they [Liverpool] have the strongest defence.

"Because of that, I think that gives them they edge.

"Man City have given teams some real good opportunities, I don't see it quite as much with Liverpool."
