David Moyes explains fresh Jack Wilshere injury cost him place in West Ham squad against Charlton

West Ham boss David Moyes has revealed Jack Wilshere has suffered yet another injury setback after rolling his ankle in training.

The midfielder was set to be involved against Charlton in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night - West Ham winning 3-0 to seal their place in the third round without the former Arsenal man - but suffered his first injury since lockdown on Monday.

Wilshere has barely featured since his move across London more than two years ago and would be keen on a move away from the London Stadium before the window closes if any suitors come in and can strike a deal over his £100,000-a-week wages.

Asked why the midfielder missed the cup tie, Moyes said: "He rolled his ankle in training yesterday or he would have been playing tonight or around the squad. It is the first time since lockdown that he has had an injury.

"I don't know [if he'll remain a West Ham player], I don't know but we just have to wait and see don't we."

In Wilshere's absence, academy graduate Josh Cullen made his first appearance since April 2018 and impressed against the side he spent the last two seasons on loan with.

"I think Josh has done really well," Moyes said. "He is a great boy around the place and works incredibly hard to improve. Really pleased with his performance. I think he is someone who has put himself in with a chance [of playing this season] because we're short of midfield players sometimes."
