David Moyes' exciting Maxwel Cornet and Gianluca Scamacca claim ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

David Moyes has dropped a massive hint into what his West Ham United starting eleven against Nottingham Forest could look like.

The Hammers are looking to put points on the board after an Erling Haaland double sealed an opening weekend win for champions Manchester City at the London Stadium. Summer signing Gianluca Scamacca, from Sassuolo, came off the bench early in the second-half to replace Michail Antonio and make his competitive debut for the Hammers.

But the £30.5million Italian, who is desperate to grab his first goal for his new club, could be included in the starting 11 on Sunday. The Irons take on newly promoted Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, a location which could also mark Maxwel Cornet’s West Ham debut.

The Ivorian international completed a £17.5m move to the London Stadium from Burnley last Friday (August 5) but West Ham’s fifth summer signing happened too late for Cornet to make his debut against Man City. In his pre-match press conference on Friday, Moyes dropped a hint on Scamacca and Cornet’s potential involvement at Forest.

He said: “I think they are ready to start. I think it’s just a decision whether we are ready to play them yet. They are getting much closer, that’s for sure.”

West Ham may have just 17 senior players available to face Forest on Sunday. Injuries and player exits could lead Moyes to relying on academy players to fill his bench, as he did against Man City. Kurt Zouma was the club’s only recognised centre-back due to Angelo Ogbonna (knee), Craig Dawson (thigh) and Nayef Aguerd (ankle) missing out through injury. Dawson does however have a chance of returning to face the Tricky Trees this weekend.
