David Moyes drops West Ham team selection hint ahead of Everton test

David Moyes has hinted Pablo Fornals could come back into the West Ham starting lineup when they take on his former club Everton at London Stadium on Saturday.

Fornals was named as a substitute for the 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United and only came on with nine minutes to go, barely enough time to make an impact, though the Hammers did have an equaliser in stoppage time ruled out by VAR for a handball against Declan Rice.

Summer signing Fornals has been one of West Ham's most in-form players in the final games of Manuel Pellegrini's reign and started Moyes first game in charge, the 4-0 win over Bournemouth.

However, Manuel Lanzini was preferred against Sheffield United despite a season of struggle so far for the Argentine, who is struggling to recapture his form he showed prior to a serious knee injury in 2018 and a player who shone under Moyes the last time the manager was at the club.

With Lanzini's form falling flat when given a chance to shine, the calls for Fornals to be included from the start against Everton are growing. That may well happen anyway thanks to Felipe Anderson a doubt with a rib injury he suffered at Bramall Lane.

When asked if Fornals was likely to get the nod on Saturday for the visit of Carlo Ancelotti's side, Moyes said: "I think he has got a good chance.

"We don't have that big a squad, numbers are tight so there is a chance."

Fornals initially got off to a slow start having made a £25m switch from Villarreal in the summer. He finally got off the mark for the club in the Premier League when he scored against Leicester in a 2-1 defeat having picked up three assists in four games prior to find some form.

The Spaniard had also started the previous seven games before he was surprisingly culled for the defeat at Sheffield United last Friday.

"I thought against Bournemouth he as very good," Moyes added.

"Any Spanish player coming to the Premier League takes time to adjust and when you're a young one, even more so.

"He's got big potential, we are looking forward to working with him for years to come and hopefully he will continue to improve."
