David Moyes drops Gianluca Scamacca hint as West Ham face crucial Premier League run-in

David Moyes has said Gianluca Scamacca can have a "huge impact" for West Ham in the closing stages of the season.

Scamacca has scored eight goals in 27 appearances for the Hammers since his arrival from Sassuolo last summer, with three goals in 16 games in the Premier League.

He has struggled of late though, with his last Premier League appearance coming in a 1-0 defeat at Wolves back in January, while his last goal in the top flight came in a 2-2 draw with Leeds United at Elland Road on January 4.

Moyes has said that Scamacca is not alone though in taking time to adapt to the English top flight, with the West Ham boss giving his verdict on how hard it can be for players coming into the Premier League from abroad.

"I think to bring any player into the Premier League can take time, I look at some very big players going to other clubs and I don’t think they’ve had a big impact," he said.

"They’ll take time to settle as well. You can bring someone from the Championship who might come in and do really well right away.

"You can bring a top international in and think he’s not started so well. I think you need to give people a bit of time in the league and I think the level and the intensity can catch people out."

And Moyes is confident that there is more to come from Scamacca, who scored for West Ham in their recent UEFA Europa Conference League round of 16 second leg clash with AEK Larnaca, but is a doubt for the clash with Southampton this weekend with a sore knee.

However, Moyes feels that the Italian can make a difference for West Ham in the final two months of the season as the Hammers continue to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

"Of course he can, I think he can have a huge impact for us," Moyes said. "If we can get him back to the level he was at in the first couple of months of the season.

"We were still trying to get him up to speed but he was still having an impact with his goals. I think between now and the end of the season we’re going to see a lot more of Gianluca [Scamacca]."
