David Moyes confusion over Mason Holgate incident during Everton's draw with West Ham

David Moyes admitted his confusion after a potential red card incident in Everton's draw with West Ham on Saturday.

Carlo Ancelotti's side thanks to a Dominic Calvert-Lewin equaliser, four minutes after Issa Diop had given the Hammers the lead in the first half.

However, an incident in the second period led to a VAR review for a red card.

Off the ball Mason Holgate and Albian Ajeti were involved in a challenge, in which it appeared the West Ham man pushed his head back towards the face of the Everton defender.

The 23-year-old fell to the floor leading to referee Andre Marriner stopping the game, with Pablo Zabaleta angrily confronting the official and Holgate after the incident.

VAR checked for a possible red card in the aftermath, but Ajeti stayed on the pitch - and Moyes believes that was the right call despite admitting he hadn't seen a replay.

He told the BBC: "I don't know what they were going to look at, I didn't think there was any challenge.

"I would expect my centre halves to be tougher and get up and get on with the game. That's the way I'd hope mine would work.

"Again, I've not seen it so I couldn't really tell you."
