David Moyes assesses Arsenal defeat as Michail Antonio praised ahead of Wolves clash

While it wasn't the result that West Ham were looking for, West Ham fans may have found encouragement in the Hammers' performance in the Premier League game against Arsenal as the team look to move away from the relegation zone.

Alexandre Lacazette struck in the 78th minute of the game to give the Gunners the only goal of the game, although it was originally ruled to be offside.

However, VAR, which has been a major talking point throughout the season, had a lengthy look at the incident and overulled the decision to disallow the goal.

The result leaves the Hammers in 16th place in the table, only out of the bottom three on goal difference, they next face a home game against Wolves on Sunday.

Here is the latest news from the London Stadium ahead of that game.

Moyes on Arsenal loss

David Moyes has talked to the press following the 1-0 loss against the Gunners, where he says that his team did not deserve to lose after a late VAR decision awarded Arsenal a goal that was originally given as offside.

Chance came and went for the Hammers without them capitalising on any of them.

"We didn't deserve to lose it," he said.

"In recent weeks we have made individual mistakes defensively which has cost us in games, maybe a goalkeeping mistake or whatever. But today, the mistakes was not taking our chances when we had them, that would be the disappointment.

"Apart from that, I thought the players did a great job, really well. Made several chances but we couldn't convert them."

Michael Antonio praise

West Ham forward Michail Antonio has been highlighted as a key player for West Ham's scrap against relegation by Soccer Saturday pundit Charlie Nicholas.

The 29-year-old impressed again in the loss against Arsenal, causing the Gunners' backline problems throughout the 90 minutes, and has been praised by the pundit.

"If they can keep him fit and get a run of games from him. Because power, commitment, enthusiasm, he’s got the whole package," Nicolas told Soccer Saturday.

"He’s brilliant in the air. He can play centre-forward, wide right, wide left. He’s got all the assets. This guy is non-stop. He’s a powerhouse. This guy gives you so many options, with pace and power, and he would be an absolute treat to play with.”

Player ratings

While the Hammers may have lost the game against Arsenal, there was still a number of good performances from players to give further encouragement to West Ham fans.

Angelo Ogbonna and Issa Diop were awarded a rating of 9 by West Ham Correspondent Sam Inkersole following the game, but how did the other players fare against the Gunners? Take a look here .
