David Montgomery named an impact rookie to watch in 2019

When the Chicago Bears drafted running back David Montgomery, they drafted a player that they believed could have an impact on the offense in a way Jordan Howard could not.

The hype surrounding Montgomery since the draft has only served to intensify, as he flashed his potential throughout the offseason, training camp and his lone preseason game action.

Montgomery’s rare contact balance, burst and ability to catch the ball out of the backfield makes him a viable threat in a Matt Nagy offense.

That’s why Bleacher Report’s Gridiron Digest believes Montgomery is an impact rookie to watch in 2019:

Tarik Cohen is the Human Joystick. Montgomery may be the Human Modern Console Game Controller: bigger, more versatile, but still loaded with a full array of highlight juke moves.

Montgomery currently sits at third on the depth chart, behind the likes of Tarik Cohen and Mike Davis, but that could change after Week 1, when he’s expected to get a bulk of the carries.

Montgomery gets his first shot to wow the football world when the Bears host the Packers on Thursday night to start the NFL’s 100th season.
