David Meyler makes cheeky jibe at former Newcastle boss Alan Pardew over infamous headbutt incident

We all remember ex-Newcastle boss Alan Pardew’s infamous headbutt on David Meyler - how could we forget it?

It was one of those shocking moments that has gone down in Premier League folklore and it was an embarrassing episode for Newcastle United and their boss.

After guiding Newcastle to a fifth-place finish in 2012 and a Europa League quarter-final in 2013, pressure was beginning to grow on Pardew after a poor run of form in the 2013/14 campaign.

Despite Newcastle securing a 4-1 win at Hull that day, Pardew lost his cool on the touchline after Meyler grabbed the ball off him to quickly restart play with a throw-in.

The former Magpies boss headbutted Meyler and was sent off. He received a £100,000 fine and a formal warning from Newcastle and was slapped with a seven-game touchline ban and a further fine of £60,000 by the FA.

Five years on, Meyler is still asked about the incident and is not afraid to make light of it. That was further evident on Monday evening when the former Hull midfielder took another opportunity to joke about the incident on Twitter, making a cheeky jibe at Pardew via a 'No Context Eddie Hearn' video - an account created that posts video clips of the Matchroom Boxing promoter without context.

Quoting a clip where Hearn says: "Just relax. Just relax and play the game," Meyler joked: "When you’re trying to take a throw in and Alan Pardew has other ideas..."
