David McGoldrick breaks Premier League duck and bags a brace in 3-0 win for Sheffield United against Chelsea

Patience paid off for David McGoldrick this evening as his long wait for a Premier League goal ended at Bramall Lane against Chelsea.

And no sooner had the Ireland striker scored his first did his second arrive in a 3-0 rout for Sheffield United against a hapless Chelsea.

The 32-year-old has been a regular starter and a big part of Chris Wilder's side's brilliant first season back in the top flight.

But after 25 Premier League appearance and 41 shots on goal, including 18 on target, McGoldrick had not broke his scoring duck until today.

The breakthrough came when a Ollie McBurnie shot was parried by Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga into the path of McGoldrick who found the back of the net.

And the striker's luck was in as the ball fell perfectly again for him in the second half to make it three for Sheffield United and quickly double his top flight tally.

"It means the world," he told Sky Sports.

"I made my debut when I was 16 and still in school. Everyone's dream is to play in the Premier League, and I’ve made that dream this season. My second dream was to score.

"Two years ago I got released from Ipswich Town, I didn’t know where I was going to be. I got a trial at Sheffield United, then won promotion and Player of the Year, and now here I am, living my dream."
