David Martindale in hilarious Celtic quip as he reveals Efe Ambrose Parkhead return suspicions after Livingston misses

Livingston boss David Martindale joked defender Efe Ambrose is in line for a shock Celtic return after two big misses against his former club.

The West Lothian side left Parkhead with a point in the 0-0 stalemate against a cobbled together home team still reeling from the impact of a vast-reaching self-isolation order.

But the Premiership manager of the month - who is still unbeaten in the role after nine games in charge - insists his side found it as tough as ever against the champions.

And his side could even have secured a first win in their history at Celtic Park - if it weren't for the Nigerian's wayward headers.

Speaking with BBC Scotland, Martindale quipped: "I think Lenny has been texting big Efe. I think he's bringing him back next year!

"Efe had two fantastic headers but if I'm honest I'm not surprised they went over the bar.

"We got in good areas, Nicky Devlin had a shot late on and I think somebody should have been in at the back door, Josh Mullin's one, I've not seen it back but we got a corner out it so you've got to assume Hazard saved it and if so it's a fantastic save.

"Honestly, if you go through every Celtic player on that park, I think their valuations are right up there.

"They're very good players and I was speaking to the boys in the changing room after and they said, 'Davie, they were still very decent.'

"It was still a very tough game although Celtic came into it disadvantaged with the players that were missing."

Martindale insists it will be the same plan on Wednesday night in the reserve fixture when Neil Lennon returns to the dugout to face the Lions at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

13 quarantining players plus assistant John Kennedy will also be available for Celtic - but that won't change his approach.

He added: "Nothing's going to change, there might be a slight change in the system potentially but I'll look that that.

"But nothing will change in how we play, I don't go out to play different systems, different shapes and different philosophies.

"Our philosophy will stay the same, we'll be out there to press Celtic and limit the amount of time we can give Celtic on the ball."
