David Martindale drains Livingston assistant Marvin Bartley's battery with calls as win dedicated to hospitalised boss

Marvin Bartley insists Livingston prescribed the perfect medicine to stricken boss David Martindale with three priceless points.

The Lions assistant steered his side to a win which moved them ten points clear of potential relegation trouble to heap the worries on the beleaguered Aberdeen, who finished the game with 10 men.

It was the ideal pick-me-up for Martindale who was hospitalised with kidney stones on Friday and Bartley delivered a get well soon message as well with an added bonus of a Livingston victory which all but secured Premiership football for next season.

He said: “That win was for Davie, for the boys, for everyone at the club.

“The gaffer was taken ill on Friday, the players didn’t find out until the bus on the way up. It was quite shocking news for them that he was taken to hospital so I dedicate that win to him.

“We weren’t going to use that as an excuse. Players get injured and we have lost a staff member but it was never going to be an excuse, the players had prepared well all week, knew what was expected of them and executed it perfectly.

“Davie has made about 105 calls over the day. My battery has actually drained over the day because he was calling me that much.

“He lives the games doesn’t he, he was watching it on the stream - I am hoping he paid for it – so yeah we were in contact all day."
