David Martin's emotion and solidarity with Lampard - Moments missed from West Ham win at Chelsea

The worst corner at the worst time

With just minutes left on the clock, the Blues got a corner that could have been a good time to whip the ball into the box.

Frank Lampard wanted to make sure that the corner was used to its full extent, so he called over Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The goalkeeper then raced to N’Golo Kante, who got to Kurt Zouma to pass on the message just in time.

However, it was for absolutely nothing as Willian’s corner kick didn’t even beat the first defender, much to the frustration of his boss in the dugout, Lampard.

Solidarity with Lampard

Having been a former West Ham player, who left in pretty acrimonious circumstances, it’s fair to say that West Ham supporters aren’t the biggest fans of Frank Lampard.

There were pretty constant, not the most pleasant, chants coming from the away section of the Shed End throughout the encounter.

However, Chelsea fans tried their best to make sure they weren’t affecting their head coach, with chants themselves.

The huge banner of Lampard was also unfurled before the game kicked off to show support to their man in charge.

David Martin's emotion

First David Martin was congratulated by his team-mates at full-time, then he ran across to the West Ham supporters singing his name.

But the most special moment for the 33-year-old Premier League debutant came after that when he ran in to the press box, found his dad Alvin and the pair embraced with tears streaming down their faces.

Alvin made almost 500 appearances in defence for West Ham and won the 1979-80 FA Cup in a team featuring Frank Lampard senior.

His son may have been forgiven for thinking that a Premier League debut would never come but, benefitting from circumstances, the third-choice keeper now looks set for a run in the side.
