David Luiz's reaction on Instagram after surprise revelation about his Arsenal contract

The surprise news regarding Arsenal this week is that David Luiz's contract is set to expire at the end of next month.

Last summer the Gunners signed the Brazilian centre-back from London rivals Chelsea in an £8 million deal on transfer deadline day, with the 33-year-old considered as a direct replacement for Laurent Koscielny, who left for Bordeaux.

At the time it was widely reported that Luiz penned a two-year deal at the Emirates Stadium.

However, football.london understands the centre-back only signed a 12-month deal with an option for a further season.

Currently, that option has not been activated, leaving Mikel Arteta with the prospect of losing his most experienced defender at the end of the season.

Shortly after this news came to light, Luiz broke his silence on social media.

Whilst he didn't directly address his contract status, the Brazilian posted a question about an Arsenal training session on Wednesday.

"Where are you guys? Let’s train," he posted on Instagram.

And Luiz has continued to be active on the social media platform since his contract status was revealed as on Friday he uploaded a couple of videos to his Instagram stories of his speaking in his native tounge.

If Luiz does depart on a free transfer this summer, he has already made it clear that Benfica is the club where he wants to finish his career, which would bring things full circle after he started with the Portuguese club.

“I always said that I would like to end my career at Benfica. In football everything changes, what is true today, tomorrow is a lie, but my feeling is not!" He told Benfica's official website.

“I love Benfica. My dream is to step on the pitch of Estadio da Luz in their colours. For all that I lived and felt, for what Benfica is in my life and in my history, for everything, Benfica is bigger than any player.”
