David Luiz's first words after sealing surprise £8m Arsenal transfer from Chelsea

David Luiz has completed his move from Chelsea to Arsenal.

Despite only signing a contract extension as recently as May, the 32-year-old has crossed the London divide and left the Blues for the second time in his career.

The fee taking Luiz from Stamford Bridge to the Emirates Stadium is reportedly £8m and the central defender is a direct replacement for Laurent Koscielny who joined Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux earlier in the week.

In his first official interview as an Arsenal player, Luiz has revealed his reasons for swapping west London for north London and also explained what appealed to him about the club.

"It’s a big club - not just in England, but everybody around the world knows how big Arsenal is," he said. "When I had an opportunity to come to this kind of big club, I had to take it.

"That’s why I’m here."

Luiz is also reunited with Unai Emery - his former manager at PSG - and his aim for the season will delight Arsenal fans.

"A big, big part. I know him, I know some people from the club," he added. "I know Edu, I know Raul, I know the quality of the team, the players, and that’s what makes me excited to dream, to have the ambition to win big things.

"I think all my life, I’ve always started the season with the goal to win things. It’s not going to be different here - I’m going to come with this mentality because this is what made me move here.

"This is what makes me feel good every single day.

"I have to run for one reason, for one goal, and my goal is to win things with Arsenal."

Luiz is Arsenal's sixth and final summer signing following the arrivals of compatriot Gabriel Martinellli, William Saliba - loaned back to Saint-Etienne - Dani Ceballos, Nicolas Pepe and Kieran Tierney.
